How-To Get the Best Value from a Junk Removal Company

When people think of junk removal companies, they typically need to remove unwanted items, such as old furniture, broken appliances, construction debris, or yard waste that they otherwise cannot dispose of themselves. Most professional junk removal companies provide a two-man junk team, a large truck, and a dolly. To get the best value when hiring a junk removal company, follow these eight simple rules:

  • UNDERSTAND THE PRICING: Typically, the cost of the junk removal depends on the AMOUNT of junk you want to dispose of. If you have fewer items to get rid of, then you will pay a lower price. Use a junk calculator to get a better idea of how much space your items will take up in the truck.
  • DISCOUNTED SERVICE: Often, special discounts are available for those who take advantage of online booking.
  • ON THE PHONE: Junk removal companies usually have toll-free customer care representatives available 24 hours a day. We recommend choosing a junk removal whose customer care representatives are professional, friendly and helpful. When speaking with a customer care representative, inquire about whether the company is fully licensed, bonded and insured. Also, inquire whether the junk removal company recycles or donates the items that they remove – ask for a recycling percentage.
  • SETTING THE APPOINTMENT: Book early in the morning – you will get a team that is ready to work – not tired from a hard day of removing junk.
  • WHEN TO BOOK THE APPOINTMENT: Book your junk removal appointment in the middle of the week (Wednesday or Thursday). Weekends and days early in the week are often times fully booked.
  • PREPARATION: Leave the junk where it lies – DO NOT bring the items to curbside. Typically, the labor and loading is included in the price. Professional junk removal companies are experts in removing unwanted items from WHEREVER they are located in your residence or office.
  • DURING THE JUNK REMOVAL: Do not hide monitors or TV’s in boxes – we recycle them at no added cost! Tell the employees that you have a monitor or television to dispose of and they will make a point of recycling it!
  • AFTER THE JUNK REMOVAL: If you have hazardous material, let the team know about it. They will provide you with the proper disposal authority.

PLEASE NOTE: Most of junk removal companies do not pick up hazardous waste (paint, batteries, cleaning solvents, gasoline, oil, etc).

College Hunks Recycles Your Monitors for FREE!

If you missed the 9News computer monitor and television recycling drop-off this past Saturday (March 7th), COLLEGE HUNKS HAULING JUNK can take them away for FREE with any size junk removal. NOTE: So as long as you have some junk for us to remove (at normal rates), we can recycle up to 5 monitors or TV’s for FREE!

COLLEGE HUNKS HAULING JUNK will remove your old TVs and computer montiors at NO ADDED COST!

Improper disposal of computer monitors and television creates a significant burden on landfills because toxic substances (such as lead) can leach into the soil and groundwater. For instance, cathode ray tube (CRT) television monitors contain, on average, four to eight pounds of lead, a highly toxic heavy metal.

Our very own Denver-based, Guaranteed Recycling Xperts offer some tips and answers to e-waste recycling questions.

It is now Spring Cleaning time and many people ask us to help them declutter their homes. If you have any areas that need to be cleaned out, remember that we do all of the labor – we actually pull the items out for you and only take what you don’t want and we recycle the rest!

College Hunks On An Airplane

Last month, a great article was published in Southwest Airline’s ‘Spirit’ Magazine. It not only describes what differentiates College Hunks Hauling Junk from our competition (the ‘cigar-chomping guy with 5 o’clock shadow, foul temper, and shifty eyes’) but also goes into detail on how we got our start. The writer tells our story well – “We put up fliers that said, ‘College Hunks Hauling Junk: Basement, Garage, Attic Clean-Outs,” Friedman recalls. “We knew there was something to the name; that we weren’t your typical junk haulers gave it an allure.”

Here is a sample of the Southwest article to whet your pallate:

For College Hunks Hauling Junk, their success is all about a clean-cut, professional image. It sets them apart from the stereotype of junk-haulers-the cigar-chomping guy with 5 o’clock shadow, foul temper, and shifty eyes. Take their bright orange cargo truck with its logo depicting the torso of a buff, green-shirted man with pearly whites, rock-solid biceps, and a backwards baseball cap. It gets your attention.

“We’re kind of the poolboys of the 21st century,” says Nick Friedman, 27, with a laugh. He’s tall and tan, a former Pomona College basketball player, with a cleft chin and close-cropped blonde hair. Today he’s dressed in the College Hunks uniform: a green, logoed polo shirt and beige khakis. His partner, Omar Soliman, 26, shares his healthy tan and bright teeth. Despite their own inarguable swoonworthiness, the original hunks say they’re about more than just good looks.

From the beginning, a positive attitude and driving ambition have defined the College Hunks’ business plan. Like many young entrepreneurs, Friedman and Soliman got their start working out of a parent’s home. Friends from their high school days in the Washington, D.C., area, the two went their separate ways during college: Friedman to Pomona in California, and Soliman to the University of Miami. They kept in touch, and every summer they’d reunite in D.C. The two would often deliver orders from the furniture store owned by Soliman’s mother using her dented cargo van.
