Beginnings of College Hunks Hauling Junk

University student Omar Soliman and his buddies from high school set out to earn extra money for summer vacation by starting COLLEGE HUNKS HAULING JUNK. Omar’s mother owned a furniture store, and she loaned him the store’s beat-up cargo van so he could operate his new business. During his senior year of college, Omar entered his business plan into the Rothschild Entrepreneurship Competition. Out of nearly 150 entries, Omar’s entry won first prize and $10,000.

Upon graduating from college, Omar met up with his old high school classmate, Nick Friedman. Nick and Omar were both entering the corporate world, but their entrepreneurial spirit was magnetic. Having hauled junk together during that initial summer, they began discussing the possibility of operating COLLEGE HUNKS HAULING JUNK on a year-round basis.
Leaving their corporate jobs after just a few months, Nick and Omar decided to streamline the system they had created and implement the business plan on a full scale. They invested every penny they had earned, and began hiring area college and university students to help grow COLLEGE HUNKS HAULING JUNK, America’s Junk Removal Specialists.

Since its inception, COLLEGE HUNKS HAULING JUNK® has experienced significant growth throughout the United States and has garnered the attention of major media outlets. The company has been featured on Oprah.com, and has been showered with praise for its community involvement. The bright orange and green trucks elicit smiles, double takes, and cheers whenever they drive by.

The Denver Franchise

The Denver franchise of College Hunks Hauling Junk opened its doors in October of 2007. Since 2007, we have helped thousands of clients remove old furniture, dispose of used appliances and electronic waste, haul away renovation debris, construction remains, yard waste, old computers, and much more. The Denver franchise was started by Nathaniel Bruno who graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a BS in Business Administration and a focus in Information Systems in 2005. He then moved back to Washington DC and began a career as a web developer. He quickly got bored with corporate life and moved to Denver, CO in January 2007, only to quickly realize that working in an office in beautiful Colorado was going to be a waste of time. He then started his own junk removal company in May 2007, shortly after he was approached by Nick Friedman, President of College Hunks Hauling Junk, about converting his company to a franchise. He signed on and began operating as part of the College Hunks Hauling Junk family in Denver in October 2007. The streamlined junk removal operations, the client loyalty center (call center) and the superb leadership of Nick and Omar drew him to purchasing the College Hunks Hauling Junk franchise. The leadership was a very big factor for him and he also had complete confidence in the value of the service the hunks provide.

Nathaniel was the sole owner of the Denver franchise and handled all of the aspects of the business on his own until July 1st 2009. Tanner White, who had been a Denver College Hunk since June of 2008, purchased part of the business from Nathaniel and became his partner. Tanner had loved his time working for the company and had recently graduated college from the University of Denver with a BS in Business Management in December 2008. Unsure what the next step was going to be for him, he weighed his options. Either he was going to go back to pursue a masters degree or become a business owner himself. Tanner decided that he had spent enough time in class rooms and thought that owning a business would be something that he would love. After sorting out finances and securing loans, Tanner purchased part of the business from Nathaniel and become a partner in the Denver franchise of College Hunks Hauling Junk.
